Treatment/Concept (Presentation) P2 (a)

Music Video Proposal

John Butler Trio - Livin’ in the City

Target Audience
The intended target audience for my music video will be mostly John Butler Trio fans, this is simply because they will be most likely to listen to the song, and therefore be interested in the release of a music video from the band. However I could also include fans of rock and alternative rock music, whom may also be captivated by the music video and be introduced to the song by seeing the video online.

Running Time
The running time of the music video will be 3:37 (Three Minutes, Thirty Seven Seconds), this an additional 10 seconds on the audio, as there will be an introduction of the band preparing their instruments.

Medium

Video, 1080p HD, 16:9

My chosen song to use for my music video is “Livin’ in the City” by John Butler Trio. I aim to reflect the lyrics through the video, and the storyline would coincide with the lyrics. The song is based around city life and almost what  a day of a city worker consists of. There will be similar videos for the chorus, however verses would have varied scenes that follow the script (lyrics).

The video will be focussed on one individual, a city worker. Throughout the video we will see the male complete his daily routines within the city.

It will begin with a a drummer, preparing to playing, and an individual playing guitar, in a dream state. Throughout the instrumental section at the beginning of the song, several clips will appear from different perspectives of the band featured in the song. The audio will be slightly distorted, as if you can hear it through a radio, and as lyrics begin the dream will fade into the male’s bedroom with a medium close up as he wakes, it will then zoom out as he begins to get ready for the day. (He will be lip synching). There will be a quick pause with the music, and next we will see the train pull into the station with the coinciding lyrics, then showing an extreme close up of a watch as it mentions the train is late. (POV shot of him walking on to the train)

Furthermore, we shall see the individual arriving at his workplace in the city, firstly showing a skyline of the city, then him walking into the building.

For the chorus there may be an overlap of two videos, one showing the individual hard at work, and another showing him lip syncing the lyrics. (This will be repeated for all choruses)

The next verse will show the city worker on his computer, deleting messages etc, this will match the lyrics, emphasising the storyline. (over the shoulder shot) and a whip pan as the individual become aggravated by his work, making angry hand gestures. e.g shown below

It will now cut the the individual playing guitar again for the instrumental, extreme close ups of guitar, pan and zoom to be used.

With the use of jump cuts, and quick editing, I will produce a captivating clip throughout the instrumental, using cloning, and duplicating techniques to maintain the tempo, as well as keeping the audience involved whilst there is no lyrics.

Chorus repeated
As the chorus repeats, I will fade the opacity and we will see the male individual writing a contract and speaking to a record label on the phone, this will coincide with the lyrics and give an interesting end to the music video.
